Man Gets DUI on Way to Court-Ordered DUI Victims Impact Panel

Bruce Jeffery Degroff Jr., of Albany, NY, was previously convicted of a NY DUI. One of his punishments included attending a Victim’s Impact Panel. This is a common punishment many county judges give out. DUI offenders are required to attend panels where they have to hear the stories of people who have suffered serious injury or lost loved ones due to drunk driving accidents.

Degroff was on his way to one of these panels when he was pulled over again for a DUI. He had a BAC of .11%.

The consequences for a subsequent DUI are exponentially worse. Degroff could possibly lose his license altogether and may even need to spend time in jail.

Even if you have been arrested multiple times for a DUI, you still need a DUI attorney to make sure your rights are intact and that you are not alone when navigating the complex judicial system.

4 Ways To Keep Calm During Your Court Appearance

After a DUI arrest, appearing in court for your arraignment can be a very overwhelming process. The courthouse can seem like a factory and with all the people coming and going, things can seem confusing, often dizzying.

However, it is important to be respectful and calm when you appear in court. Being angry or emotional can potentially affect the outcome of your case, especially if you don’t have an attorney (which is something we DO NOT recommend!)

Here are some tips to not let your court appearance get the best of you.

1. Research the court house before your appearance. Go online to get the address of the court and to get driving directions. Many county courts have their own webpages that feature parking directions, maps of the building and other pertinent information. The more you can familiarize yourself with the actual courthouse beforehand, the easier it will be when you make your appearance. If something is confusing, such as parking or where the actual entrance is, don’t be hesitant to call the court house to get your answer.

2. Arrive early. Of course, no one ever plans on being late. However, if you’re able, try to arrive early to your court appearance. This allows you to acquaint yourself with your surroundings and gives you a chance to speak with your attorney before you meet with the judge.

3. Take a deep breath. If you feel as if the judge or any of the court staff is coming across intimidating, don’t be reactionary. It won’t do you any good to talk back or be disrespectful. Take a deep breath and follow step 4:

4. Trust your attorney.  If you’ve found your attorney through 1 800 DUI Laws, you are in good hands. Supreme Court to Handle DUI Blood Testing

Many attorneys recommend that when you get pulled over for a DUI and the police officer wants to take a BAC test, you should request to be taken to the station for a blood test. However, throughout the country many federal and state courts have been undecided whether or not a police officer needs a warrant to take a blood test.

Most recently, the Missouri Supreme Court decided that police do need a warrant to test one’s blood for intoxicants unless the delay in obtaining the warrant would result in harming a life or destroying evidence.

This particular case will be brought to the Supreme Court among other similar cases, most likely this coming January.

Should the police get a warrant to take a blood test? Or does the fact that the police suspect you to be under the influence give them the authority to issue a BAC blood test without a warrant?

If you have been arrested for a DUI, you probably didn’t think that all of this detail goes into examining your case. However, it is important as it could determine whether or not you will be living the rest of your life with a DUI conviction on your record.

Furthermore, the legality of issuing a blood test is not the only specific detail that will be examined. There are many aspects of your DUI that will come into play that can catch you off guard. This is why you need a skilled DUI attorney on your side to fight your charges. The attorneys of 1 800 DUI laws have experience with these kind of details and can help you navigate the complexities of the judicial system. Find an attorney today!

Florida DUI Offender Driving with a Squirrel in His Shirt

Warren Michael III of Green Cove Springs, FL was arrested for a DUI on Saturday night and police noticed something a bit out of the ordinary from your typical Florida DUI arrest.

Michael apparently had a squirrel in his shirt and claimed that the squirrel was eating him. Police asked Michael to secure the squirrel and step out of his vehicle when they suspected he (Michael, not the squirrel) has been drinking.

Michael failed a field sobriety test and his BAC was nearly double the legal limit in Florida. Later, Michael’s girlfriend arrived on the scene to take custody of the squirrel… and Michael’s car.

The consequences for a DUI in Florida include expensive fines, loss of license and jail time. If you have been arrested for a DUI in Florida, contact a FL DUI lawyer right away!

  5. If you do get arrested for a DUI, be sure to find an experienced DUI attorney as soon as you can so you can avoid jail time and having a criminal conviction on your record!

Man Gets Arrested for DUI on Horse

You’d be surprised how many times we get asked this question:

“Is it possible to get a DUI on a horse?”

Yes, it is.

DUI on Horse

CBS News reports that in Jessamine County, KY, Danny Reynolds was arrested for a DUI when police noticed him staggering as he dismounted from his horse. Reynolds admitted to drinking a few beers and had in his possession marijuana, beers and a mason jar of Moonshine.

Because Kentucky has a law that says you are not allowed to operate a non-motorized vehicle while under the influence, riding a horse while drunk technically constitutes as a DUI. This means you can also get a DUI on a bike, a boat, a red wagon or pretty much anything you are using as a vehicle. We’ll get back to you if a drunk piggyback ride can get you a DUI.

No matter what the vehicle, motorized or not, you need an experienced DUI attorney on your side to fight your charges. Find a DUI attorney today!

Sports Stars Face Consequences After DUI Arrests

Though Atlanta Falcon’s running back Michael Turner will likely play on Sunday against the San Diego Chargers, he may likely suffer serious consequences for the DUI arrest he received early Tuesday morning. After all, the consequences for a DUI are rather harsh as a Georgia drunk driving arrest can result in expensive fines and even jail.

Additionally, the NFL has been issuing penalties for players who get arrested for a DUI. For example, Clark Haggans of the 49ers has been suspended for 3 games following his 2011 DUI arrest.  Chances are we will see Turner face similar consequences.

In the world of baseball, Mark Grace, the broadcaster for the Arizona Diamondbacks, will have to face even tougher penalties for his August DUI arrest because of a failure to install an ignition interlock device from a previous DUI arrest as well as driving with an expired license plate.

These are just a few examples of the serious consequences people face when they are arrested for a DUI. Sometimes they may be harsher than what you actually deserve. That is why it is necessary to hire a skilled DUI attorney to fight your charges. If you have been arrested for a DUI, find an attorney today!

Arrested for a DUI? Be Careful What You Post on Facebook

Back in July, Paula Asher, of Woodford County, KY, was arrested for a DUI and a hit and run. However, following the incident, Asher took to Facebook to post an arguably cavalier comment about the incident. She posted on her Facebook status, “My dumb bass [sic] got a DUI and I hit a car… LOL”.

The parents of the teenage passengers in the car that Asher collided with apparently got word of her Facebook status and informed the county judge. The judge told Asher to delete her Facebook account which Asher did not do. As a result, Asher was charged with contempt of court and had to spend 48 hours in jail.

This incident shows that the way you behave or present yourself after a DUI can affect how the judge rules in your case. This is why it is always a good idea to present yourself in the best positive light during your DUI hearing and to have an experienced DUI attorney at your side to advise you if you’re unsure.

More Troubles for Amanda Bynes Following DUI

Amanda Bynes

It seems as if Amanda Bynes is getting pulled over at least once a week. Yesterday, it was reported that the actress got her car impounded after driving on a suspended license.

If you have been arrested for a DUI, driving on a suspended license can mean a drastic increase in your DUI penalties. You may have to pay more money in fines and even spend time in jail. Additionally, you could lose your license altogether. That is why it is very important to hire an experienced DUI attorney to help you navigate the complex judicial system and save your license.

Bynes has yet to appear in court. We have seen many celebrities not appear in court and just send representation. However, because of Bynes’ numerous traffic infractions that occurred this year, the judge suggests Bynes make an appearance herself.

It is a good idea to appear in court if requested, but never go into court alone. Have a trusted and experienced DUI attorney on your side or you may end up facing serious consequences.
