The son of a councilman in Lexington, South Carolina has been arrested for a DUI. The councilman is a strong supporter of “Emma’s Law”, a bill that aims for stricter penalties for DUI offenders.
Jonathan Ted Stambolitis, the son of councilman Ted Stambolitis, was pulled over for speeding near the intersection of US Highway 378 and US Highway 1 in Lexington. According to the police report, Stambolitis smelled of alcohol and had signs of intoxication.
The officer had Stambolitis perform a field sobriety test, which he failed. Stambolitis was arrested and taken to a detention center where he refused to provide a breath sample. However, Stambolitis did admit to having two “larger sized high gravity beers”. These beers contain 9 to 10 percent alcohol.
Stambolitis is the son of councilman Ted Stambolitis who is the owner of the Flight Deck restaurant. There is a sign on the restaurant supporting Emma’s Law. Emma’s Law is a proposed bill aimed at making the penalties for DUI stricter, including requiring offenders to install an ignition interlock device. Stambolitis is a strong supporter of Emma’s Law.
