Expungement of criminal records in New York can be a complex process, and the ability to clean up past criminal convictions depends upon many different factors. Only in exceptional circumstances where there has been an error in the reporting of the criminal offense can a DWI expungement be performed. It is possible, however, to obtain a certificate of relief from civil disabilities so that a criminal conviction will not effect New York state licensing decisions.
