Testimonials

“Jeffrey Jowdy, of Jowdy & Jowdy law firm served as my lawyer when I was a teen and got into some serious trouble. Mr. Jowdy worked long and hard on my case. My family and I are sure no other lawyer could have done as fine a job. The outcome of my case was the best it could have possibly been. Mr. Jowdy, was available to speak to me and my parents answering our many questions and concerns. I am a man now and when I think of Jeff Jowdy after knowing him not just as a lawyer but as a caring human being, I would tell anyone this is a family run firm. It is apparent when you see the family all working together that family is important to them. They understand family and do the best they can for their clients. Jeffrey Jowdy is the man to call if you ever get in trouble with the law and need help. My family and I would not have gotten through that time in our lives without Jeffrey Jowdy. Being arrested for a Carmel DWI can cause a lot of trauma in your life. That’s because there are severe punishments that come along with a DWI in New York. But remember, in order to be convicted of a Putnam County DWI, the prosecutors will need evidence – evidence collected by the police officer who arrested you. So here’s the deal. Don’t give the cops the evidence that they need. Here’s how to outwit the police and give the state the least amount of evidence against you:

Outwitting the Police During Your Carmel DWI Arrest

  1. Choose your words wisely. You can answer a police officer during your Carmel DWI stop, but make sure you don’t say too much. In fact, the best thing is to answer a few questions as possible. Certainly do not respond to the question, “Sir, have you been drinking tonight?” with the answer, “I had a few beers.”  This is the worst thing you can do.
  2. Tell the officer to hold his horses… but in a nice way. The cop will WANT you to answer questions, to help build the case against you. This is why you should tell him you do not want to speak on the advice of your lawyer. Even if you don’t have a Putnam County DWI attorney yet, you should still respond with that answer.
  3. Get a skilled Carmel DWI lawyer on your side. If you want to have a chance to beat the cops at their own game, you will need a DWI lawyer after you are arrested. The likelihood is that if you are stopped for a New York DWI, you will be arrested. BUT that doesn’t mean you will be convicted. This is where your Putnam County DWI attorney will come in. ***REMEMBER: According to New York DWI laws, you CAN speak with a skilled Carmel DWI lawyer BEFORE you take a blood or breath test***
  4. Say NO to the cop at the scene. If the officer asks you to step out of the car, you do not have to! This is key! YOU DO NOT HAVE TO STEP OUT OF YOUR CAR!
  5. Refuse to take a field sobriety test. Not only can you stay in your car, but you can also refuse a field sobriety test. These tests are optional! The cops at the scene will NEVER tell you this.
  6. Be firm, but respectful. Don’t get yourself in hot water by being a wise guy with the officer. You can refuse to participate in a field sobriety test, but don’t be a jerk about it.
  7. Refuse to have your car searched. There is no reason the police officer should search your car. In fact, finding something like an open container or drugs could really harm your case. You can say no to a police officer’s request to search your vehicle. Don’t let it happen.
  8. Given the choice, choose breath over blood. If the police officer takes you back to the station and wants to obtain your blood alcohol content, you should choose a breath test over a blood test. Blood tests are more accurate than breath tests. So choose a breath test to give the state less evidence against you. ***Again, you should ask to speak with a lawyer BEFORE taking any chemical tests! It’s your right in NY!***
