How to Avoid a Quitman DWI Arrest

  1. Make sure you are under the legal limit for alcohol. A good way to do this is to try and stop drinking at least an hour before you plan to get behind the wheel. This is pretty obvious, but it’s a good rule of thumb. Remember – a cup of coffee 5 minutes after drinking will not lower your blood alcohol content.
  2. Avoid DWI checkpoints. One way to do this is to use your smart phone. There are apps that can local DWI checkpoints for you. If you avoid that route, it is more likely that you will be able to get home without coming face to face with a police officer. Another trick to avoid a DWI checkpoint is to steer clear of areas that are known for nightlife and bars because that is often where police will set them up.
  3. Travel home early. Most police officers are out in full-force after midnight. Quitman DWI arrests tend to happen in the early morning hours. If you go home at 11pm, you will likely avoid the police on patrol for DWI.
  4. Make sure your car is in good condition – meaning your taillights are not broken, your lights are on if it’s nighttime, etc. You become more of a target for police if there is something not right with your vehicle.
  5. Try and follow the rules of the road when you are behind the wheel. Don’t speed or swerve your car unnecessarily. Always obey street signs. Sometimes police officers will pull you over for something completely unrelated to a TX DWI, but if the cop smells alcohol on your breath, you will quickly become a suspect.
  6. Be familiar with the area that you are driving. Don’t get lost. Make sure you are driving a car that you are comfortable driving. Any unusual behavior will attract police.
